Very Fond Memories

I wanted to share my second Scrapbook and Cards Today fall layout today and it turned out to be one of my favorites after some re-working!

If you’re a child of the 70′s, and especially a child of the 70′s from a working class family you know that while holidays and birthdays may have brought just a few gifts, it was still a lot of fun and love.  My parents never had a lot that they could give us as kids, but I remember every one of my birthdays being all about fun and celebrating me, which is what birthdays are all about, right?!

I’m also thankful that in that age where not every dang thing is documented and photographed (I’m extremely guilty of this now!), that I have so many photos to look back on and remember all those birthdays and holidays with my family.  I loved taking a walk down memory lane and remembering all the parties, get togethers and Christmas mornings where we were all so excited and thrilled with everything.

I am so grateful to my parents for these memories and not once do I look at these and think “I wish I had more”, but rather “that was such a fun day”.  They did that for us and I love it.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so happy to live our simple life right now in Okinawa. While finances may not be the issue, the small homes and lack of Target and Walmart means that we do with what we have and those “needs” get pushed back to where they belong – in the “wants” category.  In 16 months we’ve learned that living in excess didn’t make us happier.  We are probably close to the happiest we’ve been here.  And I’m grateful.
